The Church intends that the special seasons of the year: Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter be celebrated appropriately and in keeping with the theme of the season. As an aid, the Church thus suggests readings from the scriptures which fit in with the theme. These are taken from different Books both of the Old and New Testaments. However, not all are as easy to understand and comment on and hence this book offers a simplified exegesis to help both priests and laity to understand the readings better and reflect on them. Besides this, the book also offers a reflection after the exegesis to situate the readings in our day and time. The questions at the end of each reflection help to retain the focus of the reading of that day.
The book is read best one day at a time. The reader must also ensure that he/she reads the scripture text for that day before reading the exegesis and reflection. This will make the exegesis more meaningful and the reflection more relevant.
