Annual CEC Mass at Resurrection Church
Indiranagar

8 July 2007

“ When travelling recently, I met some non – Christians who were interested to know more about our faith and said they like our religion because it was peace-loving and we were concerned about the welfare of others. It is the duty of every Christian to study the Word of God, reflect on the same, and live it in our lives. We are meant to proclaim the Gospel to all with whom we come in contact.”

That was the message His Grace, Archbishop Bernard Moras, gave in his homily at the Annual Mass of the Catholic Enquiry Centre at the Resurrection Church, Indiranagar, on Sunday July 8, 2007.

Stating that the very words of Jesus have the power to heal and make us one with Him, Arcbishop Moras said we should relate the story of Jesus to to people of all faiths, and tell them how His life has affected us. He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us spread His Word. We should speak about Jesus in our home and our place of work.

Recalling the noble and unforgotten service rendered to humanity by Mother Teresa, His Grace, said that when she came to India, she was a teacher. But she wanted to live with the poor in slums. So she left the Convent and founded her own Order – the Missionaries of Charity. She devoted her entire life to live like her Master, Jesus Christ.

Thus it was also a very fitting occasion to honour a dedicated staff of the CEC – Ms Indira Das – for her 25 years of selfless service. At a small get-together, at the Monfort Brothers’ Hall, Ms. Das was felicitated with gifts, flowers and cake, in the presence of Archbishop Moras, CEC co-workers and her family and friends. Indira’s genial presence at the CEC above the Infant Jesus Shrine at Viveknagar, radiate warmth and cheer day after day , year after year. She has been a familiar face to members of the library and enquirers.

Earlier, prior to the commencement of the Mass, Sr. Clare (DSP), Directress of the Catholic Enquiry Centre, in her introduction said, “ This is the day that the Lord has made and we acknowledge God’s guiding hand in our lives. CEC is exclusively dedicated to evangelization, hence it is right and fitting to praise and glorify God’s name with our entire being”.

Stating that dance is a form of prayer and worship , Sr. Clare presented a group of dancers to welcome the celebrants. This was followed by “arathi” and lighting of the lamp, after which the Mass was concelebrated by His Grace Archbishop Moras and five priests.

Mr. Sabby Fernandes, spoke about the numerous letters the CEC receives every week from enquirers, who are searching for the truth. “ We at CEC are trying to meet this thirst for God’s Word, “ he said.

To this, His Grace Archbishop Moras said: “We constitute just 2 o/o of the population of India, even though St. Thomas came to India 2,000 years ago and St. Francis Xavier, about 500 years back. “ In fact there should be a centre in every parish,” he said, adding, the principal task is to make the words of Jesus known to people of all faiths.

After the Prayer of the faithful, the co-workers renewed their promises to continue with the work of evangelization.

After Mass, leaftlets were distributed to all the parishioners containing some information about the work done at the Centre.

After communion, Fr.Terence Franz, spiritual director CEC, mentioned that His grace had written about CEC’s programme in his monthly circular and expressed gratitude. He also thanked Sr. Clare for organizing the Mass.
