The Archbishop contacted the Daughters of St Paul in 1972 and presented his plan of the Library.
"Sr Elizabeth I. and myself did a course in Library Sciences to take up this new apostolate. Later Sr Pauline took over. Sr Alphonsa took care of the audio-visual section," recalls Sr Regina D'Silva.
The Library in the following years was maintained by our Sisters Marisa, Helen, Claudette, Teresina, Vandana and Mary Sebastian, Sahaya, Liza . At present Sr Ashrita has taken over since 2004.
"We opened new branches in various parishes to make available books to the people who could not make it to the main Library at Goledakhana."
There was a library bulletin in the early years, which evolved to 'News & Views' during the time of Sr Mary Sebastian.
Already by the Silver Jublilee Year there were about 17,500 volumes in English and over 2000 in Hindi. Subsciptions were to 59 magazines and journals and 6 Newspapers. The Video Section had 400 nos. in Hindi and English.
The Library committee headed by our Sister conducted various programmes for youth , children, parents inorder to make full use of the Library facility. |
